WHY MADE IN USA
Why We Still Make It in the USA
By Tallac House
For years, people have asked us: Why are you making this in the USA?
Let me start by saying—I believe great products can be made anywhere. I have good friends and former colleagues all over the world, including in China, and I’ve worked with amazing partners globally. But here’s why I’ve chosen to keep production close to home:
Control over production – I can make changes quickly, test ideas faster, and adapt without waiting weeks or months.
Quality assurance – I know exactly what’s going into each product, and more importantly, what isn’t.
Avoiding disaster-scale defects – My wife and I once inspected over 1,000 bike locks by hand. That’s a memory I never want to repeat.
Customization is easier – When you make it yourself, you can tweak, refine, and personalize without minimum orders or shipping delays.
Less inventory risk – I don’t need to store mountains of parts “just in case.” I can build what I need, when I need it.
Reasonable time zones – Communicating with partners while drinking the same morning coffee is a gift.
Smarter packaging – No more mystery fiberboard with the consistency of recycled sandpaper.
It’s just fun – There’s something deeply satisfying about making your own stuff.
No one else to blame – If something goes wrong, there’s only one person to talk to—and he’s probably holding the wrench.
Thanks for following along and supporting small-scale, handcrafted design.
